You must have the most valuable floor in Co. Meath by now?nige2000 wrote:Damn them Ndk clocks
Ping it fly's from the tweezers
lost another one to the floor
Stole one of a USB to i2s and back in business
I've used a 22mhz clock as I had it working previous but on this configuration it looses lock intermittently
It is supposed to be 44/45 clks so I'll have to see if I've any of them
Sounds good despite

I have been holding off from playing with my 1121 until I saw what you did with yours, but you've been rather quiet on that front :)nige2000 wrote:i know development on this thread has mostly died (maybe all threads/forums) but i stumbled across some of these i got a while back to provide a differential clock signal for the dam
for those of us that think the stock adjustable clock is probably not a great idea.....
Now the nights are drawing in, I'll be clearing the desk and warming up the soldering iron. I've also got a few Rpi bits to play with, including the Kali reclocker. Will be very interested in how you implement these potato chips and the results too.

I, too, look forward to reading of what the intrepid one does with both the 1121 but especially his clock idea.Val33 wrote:I have been holding off from playing with my 1121 until I saw what you did with yours, but you've been rather quiet on that front :)nige2000 wrote:i know development on this thread has mostly died (maybe all threads/forums) but i stumbled across some of these i got a while back to provide a differential clock signal for the dam

Due to his extended sabbatical I am expecting a blockbuster - but then i am always expecting such from nige2000.

i found a 45.audiofreq mhz clock but unfortunately its no longer working,
ive ordered a couple from diyinhk but that gonna take a few wks to arrive,
actually no sign of the new 384khz usb to i2s i ordered 3 wks ago either
actually pretty fascinating
which clock signal is used to clock the reclocking ff affects the sound
when either of the differentials are used to clock the ff it sounds more crisp and clear than using direct from oscillator
is it because its its synchronous?
not that the source clock is that far ahead

Fed up seeing Amanero boards, could spot one from a mile off now :-)
Which of the Soekris boards is he using Nige, is it the latest small DAC board, seeing that you are the resident expert having seen more than enough of them too?
Bet you would enjoy getting your hands on an Atlantic DAC and applying some of your learnings, surprised no reclocker in there!

between that and the amanero there looks to be a severe lack of interesting modifications if any
i guess if you were to put a lampizator tube output stage onto a stock soekris 1021 and amanero i guess it would be very similar

In my most unhumble opinion: I think LAMPIZATOR has more to learn from Nigel than the other way around.
Their tube circuits, the one's I have seen, are very ordinary. If I was still interested in using tubes I would not consider using any of them.
I am mystified by their reputation but that is the case for just about all of the box makers. Don't doubt the stuff sounds good but one can do better (on your own) for much less money.

Nige, how much for a balanced DAC with valve output stage and volume control? Might be time to start quoting!!

Re: Soekris Dam Dac
well to get balanced out of a single soekris 1021 you either have to use the onboard buffered outputs or do your own version of itDiapason wrote:Nige, how much for a balanced DAC with valve output stage and volume control? Might be time to start quoting!!
either way the soekris wasnt really designed with balanced in mind its singled ended thru and thru
the way its done is electronic engineer foolery for the spec sheet
the buffered outputs suck anyhow so you dont wanna go there
i think what your looking for is more like a dual mono setup where the two channel return signals arent merged onto gnd but kept separate
not aware of any dacs that do that.... and not much balanced stuff is implemented as well as it should be
there is bitpertect vol control built into the soekris that might be the best option
i know nothing about valves though, i often consider it a type of flavouring and old skool method of smoothing out digital glare caused by noise and jitter
why u lookin for valves?
$1000 would likely easily buy all the parts in the atlantic
