Maybe I misunderstood the buttons, I will be able to make it look like you're pushing any of the buttons on the sdtrans card, play/stop, forward, reverse and mode. I won't be able to add anything that is not already there.

I was hoping for a hidden' capability to do Fast Forward/Reverse that is not available via the buttons. Looking again at the manual, I doubt it exists.

There are 4 buttons... they provide:

Mode - repeat mode selection, folder jump, or file jump

Play/Stop - as stated

Forward - Skip to the next file or folder depending on the jump mode setting

Rewind - Skip to the previous file or folder depending on the jump mode setting

That's it!

Figure this is a good place to put this.

Along with my ripper project - when the files are ready to be transferred to the SD I have placed the REGEN between the computer and the SD writer.

Got a chance to listen enough last night to realize this is a worthwhile thing to do.

You will have to battery power your writer - the one I got has a cord attached so this was easy.

I started building my diy regen, but shelved it, figuring when I get the sdtrans I wouldn't need it anymore.
So now you have to go and ruin that for me.
Payback for the ripping thread?

You got me to look into something I have been thinking about for years.

Hope there isn't much left for you to finish. I must say it is a minor improvement. The ripper is 90% of the improvement and the REGEN just makes it a little better. Of course, once you hear it you cannot go back.

It is funny. I ,too, thought the SDTrans was going to eliminate the dedicated to something audio computer. Life is never that easy especially for those infected with this nutty obsession.

But when it all comes together, there is nothing like it. Akin to Dr. Frankenstein, it is if we have created life in our laboratory.

I had planned on using a pcie adapter for the transfer of files to the SD but hooked the battery up wrong and destroyed it.

Then Greg Stewart brought ot my attention the SATA adapters. Much cheaper so I bought one.

Powering with the A123s - was hoping it would use the 3.3 rail but it requires (only) the 5 volts.

Another nail in the coffin for USB based anything in audio.

I had been worried that the low bass I was getting was a little light. Wondering if my ripper was somehow over tightening the bass? That is not the case.

The sound quality is superior throughout the range. The mid bass is brought almost to par with the LP setup. The low bass is as it should be.

Those using SD card based players need to discard any notions of using USB.

USB is death to audio. Even with REGEN, it is not enough to resuscitate this extremely compromised method of transfer for audio.

Yes, of course, (what would you expect?) it is a little more inconvenient. The machine must be turned off to insert and remove a card. It is not any faster, might even be a little slower, but it is worth the trouble.

AS I was thinking that SATA seems to be a superior interface I started wondering if someone made a SATA to I2S converter and there is.

Wicked cool stuff and the best part is burning 384/32 *.wav files on DVD-R since the blank media cost next to nothing these days. Maybe spend a bit more on that "ultimate" Pioneer BDR-S09J-X for the best drive in town? BTW what's the best PSU to feed 12V/2.2A & 5V/1.4A?

Looks like it is getting near time to jump into this pond soon given all the excellent options and particularly after hearing Nige's SD card setup yesterday.

Nice to see the Gale 401s in there as well, brings back memories of Terrys restoration project which kept us going for a while.
