Another Schulzian mood on the way :) BTW how are Electronic samplers coming along? More importantly what's the verdict?
I'd love to know...yes, really :-)




A review:
Time Wind is unique in its sound scheme. The titles of the two compositions echo his regard for Wagner. The outer form of the music does not remind of Wagner at all, though. It is pure electronic synthesizer music, with layer upon layer of strands of sound and meaning. Inside each piece the music builds up towards a climax, long drawn and subtle. There is not any single moment where you suddenly perceive the movement of the music, it is over before you know. The title Time Wind is very apt: in the high frequencies it is as if you hear the overtones of cosmic time passing in huge sweeps.

This stands out from all of his other work and has a very unique sound. For me it is still a favourite, despite the very high quality and maturity of music that Schulze has produced in more recent years.

Just to remind myself that I wasn't dreaming last Thursday in the Workman's Club where I went to see Peter (and Johan) play I decided to listen to this 10" again. When he came back for the encore he suddenly started talking about a chap from Ireland who he said he appreciated his support over the years and said that his favourite album of his was 'Docile' and that he was going to dedicate a song from the album to .....Dermot ?!?!!? I nearly dropped :-) It was a lovely gesture and something I will treasure for a long time...BTW it is my favourite solo piano recording that was rehearsed for a week and put on two inch tape in an hour....Exquisite.

The three albums have been long unavailable on CD and were originally released between 1992 and 1993 and are considered classics of the Dark Ambient/Drone genre* Following on from three limited vinyl editions, Type now proudly presents a triple CD package including the first three, long unavailable and newly mastered albums from influential drone sounscapist Thomas Köner. Since the release of these three albums in the early 90's Köner has gone on to enjoy something akin to a cult status among musicians of all dispositions. His CV boasts not only a series of seminal albums under his own name but also membership of acclaimed Chain Reaction duo Porter Ricks and, more recently, a number of works that have seen him occupy a respected position in the installation and sound art worlds. Through the careful and measured use of gongs (recorded in different rooms and underwater) as well as homemade wind instruments, Köner's early work has become a cornerstone of the genre and part of a tryptich of records which have never been bettered. After far too many years in the out-of-print wilderness, it's a source of immense satisfaction to finally be able to share this incredibly dark, immersive music with the world once again. An essential purchase. Spotted a copy in Tower last week...
