As requested by Fergus. Here's a pic of the old Series 5 Croft power amp with it's 14 valves proudly displayed. Possibly the most home-made looking amp ever made; that's why I loved it then and still do now :-) If it is good enough for JP it'll certainly do me :-))))

Re: System Gallery
Hi Dermot, that amp is stunning.
We called the dog Chloe.
Hi Fran
Thanks for the very helpful reply. I might look into building a Dac if you could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
Here's the Matrix mini i that i mentioned http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Matrix-mini-i-24B ... 6757wt_905
I read somewhere that the designer roughly based it on the Benchmark Dac1, and that some people on other forums say it sounds as good.
What do you think from the images of the insides on ebay?
I had also considered this Wyred 4 sound Dac2 to use directly into my ATC's using its digital volume control. http://www.wyred4sound.com/webapps/site ... upid=18157
They make particular mention of the Dac2 having a heavily over specified power supply.
Cheers
Matt

Re: System Gallery
Yes it sure is. I love purposeful, industrial looking hifi like your Croft amp. Its one of the reasons i went for the pro version of my speaker as it looks like it means business.cybot wrote:Really? Re: System Gallery
Is that the shine synthesis amp? How does it go with the kharmas?
Fran
Fran
Do or do not, there is no try
Re: System Gallery
It is indeed, and as it turns out, it goes better with the Kharmas than many other things I've sampled. Yes, it's not the last word in clarity and control, but it's really very pleasant to listen to, in a way that some hyperfi amps aren't.Fran wrote:Is that the shine synthesis amp? That said, it's no ATM2...
