Ronald Brautigam continues his admirable cycle with this issue. The playing is exquisite of course, both concertos superbly done. And it was a great idea to include the concert aria Ch´io mi scordi di te? with piano obligato, and even if it´s not a flawless performance from Carolyn Sampson, it still gives pleasure.

That is a possibility Seán. I listen to so little Prokofiev that I only have his symphonies Nos. 1 & 5 in my collection! As you know I am always willing to give music a chance so that may well be a good investment. Do you have that cycle? I have not listened to that set in quite a while. I always found the later symphonies to a bit inaccessible however.Seán wrote:

I do have the Kitajenko/Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne Prokofiev cycle Fergus and I really like it. I also have a few recordings of Prokofiev's music performed by the LSO under the direction of Previn and they are marvellous too.fergus wrote:That is a possibility Seán. A new Mahler 10.
It is released on the 18th, but can be heard on Naxos Music library. So far don't bother.... nothing special and slower than Rattle's BPO performance.
