So the real question is: will the Jadis be returning?

I'd say so yes. Most likely its just a blown fuse. The Jadis second hand costs a lot more than the Cayin new. So I dont know how a trade in would work there if I decided I prefered the Cayin. Even Cayin's flagship model costs less than what my Jadis is worth. The Cayin's silver and navy colour scheme does match the Sony SCD-1 perfectly. Just sayin.....
Not a whole lot to choose from between the two amps. The Cayin does have a pretty strong bass which can be maybe slightly overpowering depending on the recording. But then all I have to do is switch to triode mode.
A very intriguing amp. Not what I was expecting at all. Ivan asked to me to give the phonostage a good workout as he heard it was supposed to be good but never heard it himself.

Great thread Dave, delighted but not at all surprised to hear your comments about the Cayin. Whilst I did audition the A 50 T many moons ago... I did not realise it had a phono stage built in as well. That is a very nice surprise indeed. May I ask is it MM or MC?

I'd wonder what Soltanus Acoustics Vrs Quads 989 would sound like with the Cayin powering both?

In relation to the Jadis.... I don't think you would have to trade it in to Cloney's..............I think you would have no problems in selling that privately.

Nice looking amp alright. Looks a good step up from the Prima Luna I have well at least in terms of appearance.
Would be very surprised if it bested the Jadis Dave. The Jadis is a beast of an amp with point to point wiring and massive transformers.
Regardless the Cayin looks a very good package.

On your own amp Dave have you considered getting KT88's or the 120's? Maybe even KT90's. I think you have 6550's and think they are EH.

The Cayin has point to point wiring also and its transformers are just as heavy as Jadis amps of comparable size and wattage. The Cayin has some modern extras though which certainly makes it worthy of inclusion on anyones shortlist for a new amp.

Tony, my amp has had kt88s from the start. I have considered kt120s a few times but I'd need 8 of them so not exactly cheap. At first I'm gonna wait till my Jadis is back to full health. I'm dreading the thoughts of the problem being one of the output transformers.

You are correct on the wiring but weight wise the Jadis(50S) is significantly heavier if the online specs are correct.
68lbs to 28lbs.

Ok re valves I had thought otherwise. They aint Gold Lion? Signal valves will help a lot also.
Would be very shocked, surprised and disappointed if the traffo is giving problems. Hopefully you are way off base on that.
The amp looks brand new and well minded so hopefully resistor, dodgy valve or fuse

It's worth keeping in mind that Quads love EL34 tubes.. maybe worth trying? Is it easy enough to adjust the bias?

The bias is manual adjust but barely takes 2 mins so not an issue. The Cayin is a great amp but as I throw more recordings at it I'm finding the bass a bit overwhelming depending on the recording. The Jadis was much tighter than this and I never had an issue with it in this regard. The speakers are well out in the open and away from rear walls. This particular Cayin model wont be staying whatever happens with the Jadis.
I'd say the Cayin would be well suited to lean sounding speakers.

I heard the Cayin amp a few weeks ago too Dave and like you I was also impressed with it given the price point. Definitely worth look at if anyone is in the market.
