Was that with DG or EMI Pepe?

More Bartok String Quartets: Nos. 1 & 2 from the Juilliard SQ....

I quickly launched into this set almost as soon as it arrived as I wanted to compare it with the Tokyo Quartets which I had also recently purchased. So far, from what I have heard, I am preferring the Juilliard recordings.

Both DG dear Fergus. The first, recorded in studio was analogue, the second, recorded in the early 80´s was digital, and it was one of the first early digital recordings released ONLY on CD, I imagine to boost CD sales when the medium was new. Both superb performances of course.

Thank you for the above Pepe. However, what I was trying to ask [and did not ask correctly] was who contracted von Karajan to record the complete cycle; I presume that it was DG?
