Those serial to usb adaptors can be tricky wrt drivers. I had a whole lot of grief with them in work last year.
Eventually I found a driver that would work. If you're on windows, connect the adaptor to the PC and go into device manager and see that its properly recognised in the list of devices. I'm not sure how the same thing works on a mac but there must be some similar process. Once the PC recognised the adaptor properly everything went smoothly enough
Use an older PC with a serial port maybe?

I don't think you can update Naim firmware on a Mac, a cause of much consternation over at the former green forum.
I have a cable here that does work, but it is a pain of a process, where you need pc and naim device connected by Ethernet and not wireless. The cable I got had a disc with drivers on it, so I'd imagine if you haven't installed drivers, you're onto a loser.
If you tell us what exactly you have done, I may be able to help . SJB

I see from the website there is a mac solution. Can't imagine the process is too different but I have no Mac knowledge.

I had pulled a number of drivers off the net, and it was recognised in the hardware register on the usb bus....

It's a while since I updated but I seem to remember a 30 second window at some stage and if you miss this the Qute stops looking for the connection.
I've just checked and my disc has Mac drivers on it so if you want to borrow the cable and the disk you're more than welcome.
I can't imagine Cloney not doing it if you ask.
