I hadn't played this in a long time.
Ella with Paul Smith on piano, pure and brilliant.

I found this buried in the back of a drawer long forgotten and recalled a really good CD, well recorded.
I underestimated the recording and the performance.
A very atmospheric album nothing short of brilliant, Cassandra Wilson is in tip-top form, just under the boil, smoky, breathy, restraint.
Looking at the cover you read:
"The music was recorded at 15ips onto a Studer A800 2" 16-track analog tape recorder and mixed at 30ips onto a Studer A880 1/2" 2-track tape recorder using no noise reduction.
Mastering was done from the analog 1/2" tapes into a Sony PCM-9000 Magneto Optical Recorder with 24-bit resolution using no equalization."

Ella had many fine piano accompanists; my favourite was Tommy Flanagan. Here they both are on that old flag waver, 'How high the moon' but this time they perform it as a ballad:Derek wrote:I hadn't played this in a long time.

Tommy was a fabulous soloist as well. His solo and trio albums are a delight. Here is Tommy Flanagan with his trio and Horace Silver's, 'Peace.' His pianism is gorgeous:
