Guilty HiFi pleasures?

Post by Fran »

Time to fess up..... although scorn is poured on them, I've always loved the look of the 70s era B&O gear. Was reminded of it today when looking up the specs for an MMC6000 cartridge....

I always thought B&O looked amazing and functioned beautifully but the sound never delivered. Style over substance I suppose. That said their televisions were generations ahead of the posse and gaver picture and sound quality none could match.

I found myself listening to this yesterday evening , i put in a CD of various film soundtrack and i have to say its been a while since i listened to a full CD without changing tracks , moving the volume , looking for bass definition etc etc etc

I know its not Hi Fi but it was a real guilty pleasure to listen to the Music and enjoy ..

Cheers !!

Sad, isn't it?

My latest guilty pleasure is streaming lo-res Spotify from my iPad to a makeshift computer-based system taking shape in the kitchen. Actually, there's no guilt here, just pleasure. Dedicated listening rooms are great an' all, but they're so antisocial...

That B&O stuff was what got my friend and I into HiFi back when we were 14. Still love the look of the old stuff! It was off course very common in Denmark back then... When we found out what sound quality we could get for less money, we skipped that stage and he went straight to valves and Snell speakers and home build 15 inch subs... ;)

Vintage stuff is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me - but then it often sounds better than you'd think so maybe its not really that much of a guilty little secret. Sometimes you know its well off the mark sound wise, but the stuff looks so terrific you enjoy it anyway.
