Hi,
I have for sale Meridian 596 DVD/CD player/CD transport
This is really good quality DVD and CD player and extremely good transport. I was using it with external DAC and it is way better than my previous transport from Musical Fidelity.
I would describe cosmetic condition as good.
It comes with brand new remote control that I bought for 100 euro.
It works faultlessly and it’s is really superb piece of engineering.
There is no box or manual but I have textile bag/cover from Meridian.
It was the third best CD spinner transport + DAC from Meridian in the 5 hundred serie. It costed 4250$ new in 2000. It is a beautiful intelligent machine. Jitter is extremely low. The other two better spinner from that era was 598, and the 588. The 588 is the same as the 596 with only symmetrical outputs and the video side removed, because the 596 is also a DVD player. It came in different video output configuration : component, scart. There is the 596P version that has on board DCI faroudja processor that outputs progressive scan. The sound quality of this unit is better than all dedicated Meridian CD player of the 5 hundred serie including 20bits and 24bits version of : 506, 507 and 508. Only bettered by 588 in the words of Mr. Stuart the CEO founder and head engineer of Meridian at the time of its release. The 598 released afterwards can play DVD audio. The 596 is a real bargain today for its exceptionnal CD replay quality, smooth detailed and true with the Meridian signature true to life and deep details quality lacking in todays offering. Assymetrical outputs only.
Demos are welcome.
I am looking for 400 euro but I am open for reasonable offers.
Thanks
Maciej

Re: Meridian 596 DVD/CD player/CD transport
...to Tony to get things right:)
Hi Tony,
I thought you were talking about the head amp for a while.
I am far from moving to computer audio at the moment partially because I have large collection of CDs and it’s hard to sell them for nothing when you look at the receipts from some years ago that are at the back of the booklets.
Besides I am waiting for Sebastian to start and finish his computer so I am avoiding hiccups related to this project.
I had Brian Wadia on trial for few weeks and I decided to keep it. Do not ask me what is like to compare with the Meridian/Lampi combo ;), different presentation in general and few more things, but 2 systems have their advantages and disadvantages....I am holding to Lampizator as I would like to use it in the future.
Regards
Maciej

Sorry about that Maciej posted on the wrong thread! Possible a senior moment. Congrats on the Wadia looking forward to hearing it.
And best of luck with sale of Meridian as you know I ended up buying Sebs after hearing yours in my system. Great CD player.Rich musical and unless going for something as exotic as a Wadia very hard to beat at this price. Would advise anybody looking for
a great CDP to give it a listen.
