new drive = less SQ
fat16 = more SQ
overall = maybe better.
good idea. use fat16 can ignore security of ntfs technologue (i think encryption/decryption or some security for seraching in ntfs file table). fat have more simple file/folder list, it's file allocation table.

"new drive = less SQ"
why doesn't reduce drive quantiy? hehe...
ok... i just remember i have stripped my 2012 my diskmgmt.msc is gone. cannot make new partition!
maybe you test it....

Does lekt usbc sound better if played from a USB FAT16 system rather than an ntfs drive?

need test, goon-heaven. think if partition is empty, only few files needed for players then better. audio computer storage need as simple as good coz OS must initialize it while system boot and take care it while working. my windows take care 3 partition ~ 500,000 file => very bad. any access to hard disk need searching. short file list always better for searching.

I was asking as only drive is USB win-to-go server 2012 R2 on ntfs. I can format USB to FAT, but ran into grief when preparing the OS install and making it bootable... more homework needed.

I can get another stick if running from USB FAT16 shows promise but though I'd ask 1st.

don't think usb boot is good idea.
should just disable it like good old days(win7). SQ better
