Not sure which Meitner driver you have Tony but second lowest setting in both panels for driver seems most stable.
The latest version of JPlay seems more stable on lower buffer settings but if you struggle on Ultrastream you can set the 192 setting to 2 or 4 samples for DSD.
Ultrasize of 30 or 40 should work for you and I found in second registry area where the new settings are on the latest JPlay version setting clock to 1 gives better performance, this changes the clock setting you see in the bottom of the settings panel from 0.5 to 1.

Re: DSD
It is 1.63 the latest one on meitner site. The firmware haven't looked at and tbh didn't want to you have had enough issues with meitner boards knowing my track record firmware upgrade might lead to smoke coming from the rear of the Meitner!
Will have a look on the jplay site for secondary setting wasn't aware of that(haven't used Jplay in anger for a while on the main system)

Re: DSD
The lovely Meitner converts everything to DSD including PCM so in terms of comparison this should be considered. It's also possible (with Hugo anyway) to output using KS or Wasapi and the sound differs, smoother and meatier with KS and more detailed with Wasapi. With Wasapi there's more of a similarity with MQN . Tony , you need to get the buffer down from 1024 to 2 or 4.

Re: DSD
Did that as you said Ken but preference was for 1024 it sounded duller but I think this was a first attempt it obviously needs a bit more care and tweaking to get the best from DSD. Which is better I think depends on your personal preferences the stuff I have heard so far on DSD I find to be very pleasant but not bloated and warm just very real sounding(to me)Ken Moreland wrote:The lovely Meitner converts everything to DSD including PCM so in terms of comparison this should be considered. Re: DSD
Pearse, I have the Firmware files ready for your comeback. Would be great to use this unique chance to do head to head comparison of new vs old firmware on two of our MA-1 side by side to see how different the FW really is. Should be interesting as I assume most people would just do update and comment afterwards living some space for suggestion and shakey sound memory.
The current newest driver is 2.20. Tony let me know your email and I can send you the file if you want.
Cheers,
seb

Re: DSD
Good idea Seb, should be able to do a quick swap of usb and balanced cables into the primare and be playing alternately in seconds hopefully.sebna wrote:Pearse, I have the Firmware files ready for your comeback. Re: DSD
Seb I downloaded the drivers from the Meitner site 1.63 is the latest? but will pm my email address and you can send me later driver if that is available. Will have to hold onto Pearse's Meitner until next year when I can afford LZ DSD upgrade!

Re: DSD
I know that DSD music is limited in quantity, but how about quality.
DSD = right = real = natural = joy = fun
Don't we know that good stuff comes in small quantities...:)

Very nicely said and most of us can probably apply that to all aspects of our life.cvrle59 wrote:I know that DSD music is limited in quantity, but how about quality.

Now Pearse who is awaiting delivery of his LZ BIG L7 is wondering what the hell you are talking about!
The bit I am finding out is it is certainly a labour of love. From sourcing the stuff getting it converting it and having
to budget to upgrade my dac to play this stuff.
I think it is worth repeating part of your quote
'DSD = right = real = natural = joy = fun'
It is very accurate I need to find a dsd download of Talking Heads Brick to experience the best of modern music at this level.
The usual quality jazz suspects sound I think a lot better than I am suggesting here as I don't want to do hyperbole and fall on my face.

All I can say, I am blessed to be part of this community (thanks to Adam, he introduced me to MQn in first place), where all of us learn from each other.
