He's a great singer and great guitarist but somehow it doesn't add up. It's all a bit detached and, oddly, soulless. Was that the open air RDS gig Dermot? I was there myself but working at it.
It was the his gig at the Olympia Ivor. It's funny you say it's all a bit detached and, ever so slightly soulless though, because that was the main reason I stopped following him. Just a smidgin too polished and perfect for my taste I'm afraid. At least he taught me to stay away from the likes of Bibb and company :)
Agreed, talented alright but he's a bit too clean & clinical for my taste.

+1 DaveF. Hard Again was one of the first Blues LP's I bought way back (mid 80's I fear), and still think it's a great album. I think the Blue Sky albums were great recordings alright. The version of Mannish Boy from Hard Again turned up in a Levis ad a few years later too.

Gets a regular spin here every month or so. 'There stands the glass' surely the stand out track of great bunch tracks to begin with.

Was listening to Happy Hour only last week as I was setting up my vinyl replay again after getting the requisite DIN/RCA cable.

I remember my late mother very dubious that I lying to her the night I went to see him live
