Initial sanding and filling done, the stands now have a first (rough) coat on them:

If things go well, I might have them fitted early next week!!

Another update: I have these finished and fitted now and I have to say I think they look pretty good!! The rake has worked out nicely - its adjustable from original to vertical.

I have done a complete rejig on the system that its connected to so I haven't even plugged back in the speakers to have a listen yet.

I'll post some pics later....

I managed to get the speakers hooked back up tonight (had done a refurb on the room, so I had to hook everything back up again, TV, amps, dac etc etc.)

Very happy with the way they look now. I do think its nicer than the sheldon stokes stands. The colour BTW, is just what I had to hand (elephant breath believe it or not!!).

To match the horn speakers eh? Although that might be too many speakers in the one room! They look fantastic Fran... Jasus but ye have lovely hands.

Very neat impressive pro job. I told you that you need to start going into production there is definitely a small bespoke business here. Hard to believe I missed the workshop but it took all night to get through the various hifi systems scattered around the house.

Yeah, matches the horns, or maybe more correctly, left over after spraying the horns!!

Anyway, did some limited testing last night and theres a pretty large difference between raked back and vertical. Treble almost seems muffled and bass is cut when they are leaned back (as per the original). Its easy to check this out - if you have them leaned back, just stand up - so that the panels are beamed directly at your ears. It all changes.

Might experiment a bit more tonight if I get a chance, but I'm reckoning vertical or just off it will be where it ends up.

Just back from foreign parts Fran, have to say the stands look very good, I love the little flourish on the back leg and the elegant adjuster. Did you get a chance to hook everything back up and play around a bit more?
The whole place is a complete mess. Can't find anything. Right now I'm eating scrambled eggs, with a comb, from a shoe!

Stunning Fran - me want!

I also reckon there is a good market for a kit - I reckon there'd be a fair bit of interest on PFM/wigwam forums, and then there is EvilPay too.

Thanks guys,

I'm looking into doing a kit, but am waiting on prices to see if its possible.

As regards the sonics: From what I have heard, it seems to me that vertical or very close to vertical sounds quite a bit better than reclined. Maybe its that the sound is more directional, more point source and you are tuning out the room, but sounds better to me. The other thing I was a littel concerned about was that these are now lower than on the old stands, but that has made no difference at all IMHO. Bass very much improves in impact and fullness when you bring them -

So the key thing is getting it near vertical, getting both sides to the same angle, and having them looking reasonable. Actual height between these and the sheldon stokes seems to have zero influence on sound.

Come along and hear them!! Its very easy to listen one way and then the other.
