Re: MQN
2.96 is an elegant solution and sounds beautiful. The sound quality on 24/96 is the best I've heard compared to previous MQN's and way better than Jplay etc. Approx half of my music is 16/44.1 but the rest is in 24 bit format mainly 24/96 and 24/88 with a small but increasing amount in 24/192 and a few in 24/48 or 24/176. so I look forward to the remaining formats too :)

Re: MQN
Gordon,
the mqnplay versions you provided in a zip file - and versions R2.90 (and above) as well - have a common issue:
If playback has ended, mqnplay.exe isn't closed as normally. Instead the process begins to consume more and more memory. This ends not before one is closing mqncontrol console window by pressing X key. If one closes mqncontrol console window by the cross in the upper right corner, mqnplay.exe isn't terminated and memory leak goes on and on. This happens independently from using mqnload or not.
Are you aware about that?

first of all, I'm very impressed of your player, which sounds far better than any other player I've heard. Great work!
I am one of those, who are listening to several sampling rates:
16/44.1
24/48.0
24/88.2
24/96.0
24/192.0
I agree with you, that SQ is first priority, and most of other players aren't able to play as good as it would be possible.
So my idea is, that every sample rate has its own mqnplay.exe and MqnLoad could handle the routing to the respecting player in dependence of sample rate of the music file - given that Christoph (taggart) would implement this function in his MQnLoader.
Kind regards
Fujak
mqn was just supposed to be an experiment to see what a minimalist player would sound like in the hope of spurring other player devs in improving their players, but has taken on a momentum of it's own.
taggart sent me a link to the aktives-hoeren forum mqn thread, would be interested if you can provide any feedback on SQ, the more data points the better. Appreciate the number of versions in the last week has been insane, so am interested in 2.96 comments.
as a member of above mentioned forum I would be more than happy to provide feedback, but do need a 24/44.1 version as my hardware does not understand 16/44.1
Hope you will get around doing one soon.

Re: MQN
thanks, shall fix it. can stop it by running mqn or mqnload with a non music file I guess.taggart wrote:Gordon,

Can't run any of the 2.9x-zip version. Here's the console output:sbgk wrote:uploaded 2.97 - 16/44 only, has fix to mqnplay not stopping at end of track and also tweak to sound to produce beefier sound.
this control won't work with previous mqnplay versions ie the stopping problem won't be fixed.
Code: Select all
The system cannot find the file File1.txt.
Could Not Find W:\mqn\File1.txt
Playback commenced - 18:31:56

Check if you've got the paste.exe also in that directory.
The error shows the intermediate file(s) of the mqn.bat are not created.
Does you have a param.txt file and does it have the proper track inside?

I have paste.exe in that dir, also files.txt, files1.txt and param.txt (last 3 are empty).Aleg wrote: Check if you've got the paste.exe also in that directory.

mqnplay.exe appears to crash immediately.
I cannot check event viewer as my event log service is switched off in optimisations.
But no sound with 2.97 while 2.96 runs with no issue on same setup.
