Arrived yesterday, quick listen and so far enjoying it.

Nice one Shane. Unfortunately it's not available on the old black plastic :) Love the cover of John beneath the low lying ominous clouds and the railroad to nowhere ;)tweber wrote:

Picked these up while ago:

Well it had to happen! A very quick trip up to Dublin Tower Eason's and I nabbed the first one on triple vinyl. About an hour later I finally succumbed to the temptation with the other two :) At least I saved approx. €40! How? I exchanged a Grateful Dead Record Day live one and my loyalty card was full. Yipee!
Verdict? Best decision I've made in a long, long time. They are a revelation! I've always dumbed down JP's production skills especially the last few 'remasters' but this time he gets it right. Thrillingly so! Granted I've only managed to give them a cursory listen but I just know he's finally nailed it :) Who needs a sub when it's this good...
Note: If you're in doubt go for the first one which includes the '68 Paris gig which is ferociously loud. I guarantee you will not leave your cave with these monsters spinning away on the tt :)

Dermot, glad you've given them the seal of approval. Being cynical, I promised myself that I wouldn't buy any of them again but yesterday succumbed to not just I on triple vinyl but all 3 on deluxe vinyl. Won't be picking them up from my dealer for a couple of weeks though...not sure if I can hold out but waiting for the Ultra LP version of Lazaretto by Jack White to come in before I pick em all up. They are things of beauty alright!cybot wrote:Well it had to happen! A very quick trip up to Dublin Tower Eason's and I nabbed the first one on triple vinyl. Good man Shane! At least I'm not (mad!) alone ;) Cannot wait until the lights are low and everyone's in bed tonight.....I'll soon waken them ;)
I've been sorely tempted with the Jack White ultra wonder too. Hard to believe but I've absolutely nothing by himself or his other band! Somebody will have to inspire me ;)

Nice one Dermot. Not their biggest fan but I'll probably pick up some of these over the weekend.cybot wrote:Well it had to happen! Thanks Dave. To tell the truth I cannot stand Plant and his posturings especially in the current climate. But.....when you hear these definitive (deluxe vinyl) versions then there is just no going back. Be warned though some of the outtakes are exactly that ;) But live is where they were really at and the '68 Paris gig is a barnstormer with Paul Jones' bass playing to the fore.....
This might just convince you ;)

Forgot to say I had no problems changing the RSD Grateful Dead dud. Lucky for me I didn't tear the plastic wrap it came in ;)

Out of interest I bought LZ1 on CD yesterday. It's not my favourite, but I was interested in the Paris gig. Bloody hell, they were good live in the early days. Far better than The Somg Remains The Same noodling. You're right Dermot, it does get loud!
