Expressions of Interest! Quad ESL 989 speakers

Post by Ivor »

I'm taking a deep breath here and wondering if there's anyone out there looking for Quad 989 speakers (Black)?

This is purely down to changeitis as these really are serious reference speakers. Forensic detail, deep midrange and sweet highs. They don't do very deep bass but they go deeper than you might think, I would describe the bass as accurate rather than subterranean! These are the big panel speakers with the additional bass panels. I will include custom made long Dalkey Audio mains cables in the sale. Previous owner was the Quad guru in Ireland so I know they were looked after, I paid €3k for them about 6 years ago I've never pushed them for volume either... that's not the kind of speaker they are! In short, they will do rock but are ideally suited to classical, jazz, acoustic, folk, electronica etc. I'd need close to €2k to part with them. Any interested parties?

I have several mental images that go with that post and they're all disturbing.

it would be a very short list. Certainly I'll demo the Eist Dubhs, they were on my list to hear at home anyway, but there are few others I'd consider too. Obviously the replacements have a lot to live up to!

Best of luck with the sale Ivor. Would assume the only consideration for interested parties will be room size to do them justice. I remember hearing them first after buying/borrowing cables off Ivor and didn't know anything about ESL's. Had never heard of them. Bowled over by the soundstage. That is with a 40w per channel amp(Airtight mine you). Fran you need to buy them it would free up the concrete blocks at the back of your stacked quads and also match the colour scheme of the Dubh's!

Well my room isn't that big really, high Victorian ceilings alright but it's average square footage.
