Re: What are you listening two?
How many Swiss composers can you name? Arthur Honegger (though he was born in Le Havre), Frank Martin, Enrico Albicastro, Carlo Evasio Soliva...and not many more. Well, there are actually a few more, like the virtually unknown Carlo Donato Cossoni, made available to us courtesy of Musiques Suisses. He died around 1700, so was a contemporary of Cavalli and Carissimi, and his brief, 10 minute oratorio Il Sacrificio d´Abramo shows that the music of Carissimi reached the Alps. Even more interesting are the motets that complete the disc. The performances are adequate, and now we can add another name to the short list of Swiss composers.
Re: What are you listening two?
I would have said one but in light of the fact that Honegger is actually from France rather than Switzerland I will have to say none.Jose Echenique wrote:[

He was born in France and lived most of his life there, but his parents were Swiss, so we can say he was Swiss.Seán wrote:I would have said one but in light of the fact that Honegger is actually from France rather than Switzerland I will have to say none.Jose Echenique wrote:[

Finished listening to this set this evening....
I like the music of Charles Avison; it is straightforward, uncomplicated and melodious.
