Felix Mendelssohn
Symphony No. 4
Symphony No. 5
London Symphony Orchestra

The LSO play beautifully on these recordings, probably the best version of these two works I have ever heard.

Re: What are you listening two?
I have a number of versions of these two wonderful String Quartets but it is always great to hear them played so well by the excellent Quartetto Italiano. The music itself works on both emotional and intellectual levels and is very engaging, atmospheric and stimulating without being at all challenging. Anybody who does not know these works would do well to investigate them (see Bargain Thread!).

The Quartetto Italiano are my favourite quartet bar none in almost any repertoire, they were wonderful.fergus wrote:

Re: What are you listening two?
That´s my favorite recording of the Paukenmesse. Perhaps the Gardiner is even more all-around excellent, but Weil´s with the children choir is perhaps the closest to Haydn we can get.Seán wrote:

Wonderful sound and an interesting sojourn as I have not heard much by Reiner.
