Max you did spot your error re my expectation bias? I hope you did anyway for your sake I thought it was obvious but maybe my poor attempts at humour just fail

Ha, no, in my haste to point out the error of your ways, I pointed out the errors of mine :)

Nige, nice looking cables.

Tony, how did your listening session go? How did Nige's compare to the PP?

Sorry Mark only saw your question today but it spurred me to have a listen to both cables tonight.

I am a bit I wouldn't say sceptical but not convinced that usb cables have a huge impact on sound.
Put in the time today to listen to both cables side by side against a few tracks.

Did this by myself so was fully aware of what cable was being used on each occasion. My initial view that didn't change throughout listening was that the tz zun was more detailed and sharper. This worked great on Sonny Rollins track which had lovely mellow saxophone. Also on the usual Oscar peterson track I though the TZ Zun had just that bit more clarity.
Stuck on all the lads favourite Talking Heads tune Listening Wind and the TZ zun to me over emphasis's the high screechy electronic wind bits. Nigels Cable here softened the edge.

Nigel's cable to me sounds more live/raw and maybe a little bit of distortion. Is this just because Nige has only starting making cables and Monsieur Pang has been at it a while I don't know? Nigel has proved that the cost involved in making a decent cable is nowhere near some of the crazy prices charged by some manufacturers.

I can see a use for both depending on the music and personal taste. Aleg would pick the TZ Zun I think! Could I pick either out in a blind test. I think so but would be curious to try that at some point just to see if my expectations are colouring my judgement.

I would keep going back to the point made ages ago that I can happily live with the what I am getting out of the system now. Any improvements to me are fairly small. I did add home made bass traps in the last week and delighted with the results. Tightened everything.

The debate elsewhere is always bits are bits so it don't matter but I think it is a little deeper than that. I know from the industry I work in that cables/connections/packet loss/bandwidth/protocols used all play a part. Strange things happen to data transfer if for example a fibre connection is not quiet right. Sound produced from an amplifier from a signal from a dac is different to opening a word document on a pc. How the bits are delivered I think has an impact when playing music. Don't matter so much with word as it either takes slightly longer to open or crashes.

damn it didn't think the tz sun would best it,
the type Pearse and i tested last wk vs the PPA red are half lengths which seem better
maybe i just stumbled close to the right impedance on them

just to remind you what i said about it before i sent it up

its good (2nd best) but not the best i think its because its twice as long as my others
i have it in an envelope here to send up to you for testing

Tony, so that's what your expectation bias sounds like?
What's a TZ sun, btw?

Nige, I doubt it's to do with impedance
