How about Gobin's soundtrack for the Dario Argento classic, Suspiria?  Or the musical education that constitutes the soundtrack for Kubrick's The Shining?   Or the soundtrack from Polish jazz great Kryzstof Komeda for Polanski's Rosemary's Baby?
Gryphon Diablo 300, dCS Rossini (with matching clock), Kharma Exquisite Mini, Ansuz C2, Finite Elemente Master Reference.

The only one I'm vaguely familiar with is Suspira, though it leans a bit on prog of the Italian variety rather than ambience/atmosphere. The other two, I remember the films, I've no idea of the music! I'm willing to find out though :)

That sounds like a lot of the stuff I listen to ;) Classic sleeve. I'd say Tippy felt like doing the same after his treatment of her....Weird story. Weird guy. But still he certainly made his mark. I particularly loved his camera work on the Rebecca classic. You could almost feel yourself in THAT house. 3-D.......pah!
