Hi Ruairi, I am also new on this forum, but when I read your thread I thought I would mention that I also have a pair of PMC MB2 Speakers, which I really like, which I use with a Class A Integrated Amp. pushing 80 watts per channel according to the manufacturers. I finf that I have loads of head room and can't stay in the same room with half power on. As I know your speakers well may I suggest researching amps recommended by the speaker manufacturers. Any way good luck with your search it will interesting to find out which amp you choose. Cheers Sydneyk.

Hi SydneyK,

Thanks for the post. Having tried some different amps over the last while the one thing I've become certain of is that for what I do - critical listening - that having plenty of power in reserve makes a huge difference. In no way am I looking for a nice sound, accuracy is everything. Which brand of amp are you using?

The MB2 really are a fantastic speaker. In fact I may be selling mine shortly if anyone is interested, solely because I am considering an upgrade within the PMC family! Warning you will need a largish room and an understanding partner :-)

Just to keep you all in the loop I've put in an order for a pair of Hypex UCD400 HG with the HXR regs. For PSU I am going to try the new SMPS400. All parts are ordered and should be here tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll cobble them together as quick as I can and report back to the group if you'd like. I expect great things for the money - just shy of a grand for the all parts bar the chassis, I already have a pair ready to go.

All the best,
Ruairi

Hi Ruairi, I hope your set up works for you, my amp is the Jungson Class A Amp. I have up on this forum and it's for Sale as I now find it just a bit too detailed for me these days. Going the valve route soon, and yes we do have the same PMC MB2 speakers. If your in Dublin PM if you think listing to my setup would help you on your venture.

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I built a pair of Hypex UCD400 HG with the HXR regulators, it's early days yet but in ways I'm very impressed in others less so..... Hard to beat in the value stakes though, all parts bar the enclosures (which I already had) came in just shy of a grand.

I'll post a review of sorts in time. Bear in mind that as a mastering engineer my needs are probably slightly different to most of you guys, accuracy comes first, listening pleasure second.

I'll be back in a few weeks to report.

Cheers,
Ruairi
