If you need to keep same length I would just repair at the cut - put some suitably sized heatshrink over one of the cut pieces - strip back the insulator a cm or so on each side and tin with solder, solder a wire link across the break points. Heatshrink over the top and you'll have a passable repair.

Am I right hooking up my interconnects in the direction of the arrow into the amp??

Yep. The signal is going from the source, be it CD player, tuntable tuner or whatever and travels to the amp - in the direction of the arrow. From personal expierience I would always use an interconnect in the one direction once it's "burnt in".
Vinyl -anything else is data storage.
