Fergus, I really had forgotten just how joyous this disk is.. do you own it? The main part is a Mass by Muffat interpolating Biber & Bertali's material within a 'programme' worthy of Mr McCreesh himself... with the worthy addition of Biber's Litaniae de Sancto Josepho... beautifully constructed and performed by Junghanel & Cantus Colln.. it's one of those disks where you'd be happy to hit the play button as soon as it gets to the end...Jared wrote:

Marks recent post of Bach’s music played on the mandolin sent me searching for another old CD in my collection....
Included are 3 vivacious Vivaldi concertos, 2 very elegant concertos by Paisiello which have much more musical depth than the Vivaldi works and with some very fine instrumental passages for the mandolin (particularly the second one) and finally a mandolin Concerto by Caudioso which is quite akin in style to that of Vivaldi and is therefore light and breezy; it has however a wonderful slow movement with pizzicato strings and harpsichord accompanying the mandolin which is enchanting. Paisiello lived later than the other two and his work is therefore more developed but all of the works included here are delightfully charming and very pleasurable to listen to.

traditionally, I have never really gone for recordings which are made up of different conductors/ orchestras/ choirs and soloists in different locations, throughout an extended timescale...
... but this is uniformly pretty good, benefiting from surprisingly good recording quality, and containing the rare Gloria RV.588 next to the 589, as well as three other less frequently recorded smaller choral works.... overall, quite satisfying and very cheap.
