Hypex class D modules
Hypex class D modules
Has anyone heard/built any power amps with any of the Hypex modules. They seem to pop up quite a lot in my reading around the web, and I've been quite impressed with *some* class D implementations I've heard. I'm not getting rid of the Graafs or anything, but I'm curious!

Re: Hypex class D modules
Fraid I've never heard them first hand.
However, I have seen lots of fellas who buy them, implement them, and then move on to something else. My impression is that they give you lots of watts for smallish money and heat but unless you really really need all those watts there is better out there. I suspect that a decent chipamp would be more refined.
All that is based on hearsay, speculation, etc etc!!

Re: Hypex class D modules
Thanks Fran. It's always hard to know what to make me early great impressions followed by subsequent silence. I've had good sounds with Class D here and I wouldn't mind a cheap n cheerful something or other to play with. Maybe later...

Re: Hypex class D modules
I have a nice chipamp here - very refined relaxed sound, not harsh etc if you want to try it sometime. About 40w or so.

Re: Hypex class D modules
That'd do nicely! If I ever make it out to your place I'm in danger of clearing you out...
Thanks Fran.

Re: Hypex class D modules
I believe that Kharma uses them in their Class D amps, the MP150 and MP350, which were designed by Bruno Putzeys who is the chief engineer - I think - at Hypex.
Gryphon Diablo 300, dCS Rossini (with matching clock), Kharma Exquisite Mini, Ansuz C2, Finite Elemente Master Reference.
Re: Hypex class D modules
Yes indeed, mcq, that was one of the things that led me to this product in the first place, although the thinking is that they're altered a bit for Kharma. In an ideal world, I'd love a pair of Kharma monos without the Kharma price. As always, that would seem to be difficult to achieve!

Re: Hypex class D modules
These were the older ucd tech. The new NCore modules are meant to be much better. There are only 2 modules. The N400 for diy is 400W in 2 ohm and costs 350 Euro, the OEM version is the N1200 is 1200W in 2 ohm and there are currently only 3 companies I know of making amps with them at prices ranging from $10k to $16k
SonicTransporter Optical i9, Roon, opticalRendu, Sonore Signare LPSU, Chord DAVE, Merrill Audio Element 116 Monoblocs, Wilson Audio Sasha 2
Re: Hypex class D modules
If I were ever tempted to lift a soldering iron, by all accounts it's pretty straightforward to build amps with these. Well. Simple for many I'm sure, but I'd still almost certainly make a holy hames of it.
