and in fact I've been coming around to Schoenberg somewhat in the last year or two. I used not to be able to get beyond Verklärte Nacht, which I've always loved.

Welcome to the forum, Don: I used to post on another forum as lismahago, but I haven't been there in a long time!
Anyway, it has often been said about Schoenberg that he released melody from its chains, making music more linear than horizontal. I think Hahn understands this and brings out the melodic lines of the work. Her performance is much more lyrical than the harder edged Zvi Zeitlin/Kubelik/BRSO recording that has been around for ages. Schoenberg was an excellent, colorful orchestrator as well, something that has been overlooked.

You have inspired me to break out Lupu's wonderful Schubert Bb Sonata D 960.. outside of Fleisher, the best I know...
