A very interesting selection, I would like to know how you get on with those, particularly the Bax set of recordings.bombasticDarren wrote:

I have the complete Bax symphonies in CHANDOS. Throughly enjoyable, both works and performances.
It´s incomprehensible why Bax is not more popular.

Bax needs a major conductor to take him under his wing.bombasticDarren wrote:I certainly agree with your last point there Pepe.Jose Echenique wrote:I have the complete Bax symphonies in CHANDOS. Throughly enjoyable, both works and performances.

One of the reasons that helped Sibelius to become so popular is that conductors like Karajan, Barbirolli and Ormandy recorded him often an featured him regularly in his concert programs, other composers just as talented like Stenhammar didn´t have that luck.
Here in Mexico Elgar and Walton are played more or less regularly, Vaughan Williams every now and then, but I can´t remember hearing a single Bax symphony ever!
Re: Recent Purchases
Well I am delighted that Karajan (although, I do not like his Sibeius recordings), Barbirolli, Ormandy and Bernstein (because of his magnificent cycle) did see value in the works of Jean Sibelius. Stenhammar has had limited exposure, that said, this is a very fine set:Jose Echenique wrote:Bax needs a major conductor to take him under his wing.bombasticDarren wrote:I certainly agree with your last point there Pepe.Jose Echenique wrote:I have the complete Bax symphonies in CHANDOS.
