Hello all,
First post here, congrats on the new forum to all and sundry.
I'm looking for a solid state power amp or pair of monoblocks to drive a pair of PMC MB2 - Bryston, Parasound, Pass Labs etc...
Would like 400W plus into 4 ohms, used for mastering work in my studio. I borrowed a pair of Parasound JC-1 from a friend and they are truly awesome, wish I could keep em.
Please contact me on - ruairioflaherty (at) eircom (dot) net
Thanks!

i don't know your budget, but what about Emotiva? 500 watts x 2! @ 4ohms-and rated to 2ohms. the company owns the factory that makes the amps for Sunfire and the he designed the original layout too. now he sells them under his own name...

i know it's in the states, but they offer discounted shipping to europe to help defray the costs. just a thought.

Re: Wanted - Monoblocks or Stereo poweramp - 400W +
Thanks a lot for the replies guys. To be honest 400w per channel is low water, the Parasounds I've been using lately will do 800w each. It's not about volume but rather headroom and an accurate representation, being able to effortlessly deliver current is very important. Mastering is all about accurate monitoring rather than flattering.
I may put together a set of Hypex UCD700HG with the HXR regulators, I've heard the Hypex/PMC combo and it is very impressive and cost effective. Also spotted a pair of Bryston 28B for sale in the UK, 1000W per channel into 8ohm!Now we're talking :-)
I'd never heard of the Emotive but I'll do a little research, thank you. I'm inclined towards known quantities like Bryston, Pass, Hypex, Krell etc but that said I'd never come across the Parasounds until recently and they blew my mind. The MB2 absolutely love having the power in reserve. Ultimately this rig will end up in a large room (at least 20ft x 20ft) with substantial treatment, real power will be needed and not just for a blast in the evenings, I could work 60 hours in a week on this rig.
It's great to have a new hifi hangout!
Thanks again,
Ruairi

10W and 25W here!!
but then we are talking quad ESLs and horns...
sorry to thread crap here Ruairi, but barry - its a pity you're not over here, I'd say you would have liked the sound from the horns I built. Very neutral but very dynamic.

Re: Wanted - Monoblocks or Stereo poweramp - 400W +
Hi again folks,
Barry Robin - thanks for the link, I'll do some reading.
Ivor - of course you guys would be welcome! There are moves afoot, I'll keep you all in the loop...
Fran - Sounds wonderful I'm sure, us guys try to make good sounding records for folks like you.
I'll keep you all updated on progress, a purchase is rather pressing as the combo of amps I was using is gone and the borrowed Parasounds had to fly home. My main Mac G5 started shutting itself down today as well! I feel financial pain approaching :-)
Cheers,
Ruairi
