The magnificent choir of the Bavarian Radio is joined by the Concerto Köln for this vibrant, exhilarating performance of Handel´s Israel in Egypt. The amazing thing is how "period" the choir sounds here, with crystal clear articulation and perfectly enunciated English. This live recording perhaps doesn´t displace Gardiner´s Philips recording, but it´s equally superb.

becoming rather fond of Pohadka... whilst this is my first listen to his Serenade for Strings.

I like this disc. I accept the criticism that it's a little stop-start and lacking in flow at times, but the technique is impeccable, the sound gorgeous, and the playing very stylistic. Huggett definitely has something to say, and all told I find it convincing.

3 Magnificats from Japan. The Bach is of course very well known, but even though there are other recordings of the beautiful offerings by Zelenka and Kuhnau this is the only recording readily available at the moment, both are masterpieces and worth exploring.

I have that recording but I rarely listen to the Zelenka or Kahnau as I cannot see beyond Bach's magnificent work, I must listen to them again soon. When I do reach for a Bach Magnificat it's always Herreweghe's.
