Seán wrote:Not sure about that. Shelly Manne was a lovely drummer and has a really fine band on that recording, consisting of Joe Gordon on trumpet, Richie Kamuca on tenor sax (I've always loved his playing). Feldman on piano (I think, rather than vibes) and Monty Budwig on bass.Sloop John B wrote:

Indeed probably the wrong choice of words, just trying to convey the energy in the non-ballad tracks. A really wonderful album.

Live At The Cellar album by Charles Mcpherson backed by Vancouver players Ross Taggart (piano), Jodi Proznick (bass) and Blaine Wikjord (drums), this is the New York be-bop legend cutting loose on Broadway off Dunbar one hot summer night. Live At The Cellar music CDs; Mcpherson's tone is wonderful, his rhythm unfathomable, with a lovely group this is gorgeous music making.

Had the vinyl copy in my hands yesterday! A Christmas pressie for a friend. Changed my mind when I saw some of the titles - Sound of Silence!!! Should I have bought it do you think?markof wrote:

Beautiful album of solo acoustic guitar. Wonderful tone, sound quality and sense of space - more folk than jazz.
Main instrument is an unusual "baritone" acoustic which has a wide range. Nice arrangements of some popular tunes too.
I think that the Sound of Silence track is on the follow-up album "what's it all about" not on this one. The covers are quite similar.
Mark.

Recorded in 2006, this is a very fine big band, several of the personnel including the brass leads grace the ranks of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Lovely writing and directing by Heath and a lovely sound from this ensemble make this well worth having.
