I found it to be a very sombre work but then that comes from the subject matter which always has to be taken into consideration with works like this. I would concur with your summation of the piece my friend.
It simply isn't an easy piece to get into Fergus, and is clearly for meditative purposes rather than for pure enjoyment, in the same way that I'd describe some of the Russian liturgical works. That said, if you ever were to give this another go, then I would very much recommend this recording, as it offers a *completely* different perspective on the piece than the more traditional versions...

the Accentus version is very French in its style. You remember my comments on the Herreweghe version of Brahms' EDR? Well the contrast here is even stronger, and for me, this version of Via Crucis would be my preferred one..

I recall a few months ago they upgraded to a new version/interface which I tried for a while but ran into some minor difficulties with (which I cannot remember now) and I did not like it generally so I reverted to the older version. Perhaps that is what happened to you Jared? To be fair I have never had an issue with them so I wonder what your problem is due to?
My experiences have been similar... I ploughed on with the new Photobucket, as the old one had started to glitch on me (tghe 'organise' function had practically siezed up, and was very slow) but now, nothing will come up... apart from a constant buffering, and it won't let me go back to the old layout either. It's been like this for the best part of a week now and I fear I've lost it all .. :-/

You are not alone young man because when I listen to:
Brahms, Jared comes to mind, were it not for him I probably wouldn't have started doing so;
Bach, it's your good self;
Mozart Opera, it's Pepe,
organ music, the bold Simon,
Má Vlast, Ciaran and so on.

Creepy isn't it? LOL!

But me and Bach's Magnificat? wow I am honoured; to my (uninformed) ear the Magnificat is an incredible piece of music. End of rant!

^^ for me, Fergus got me started on Early Music & Renaissance, for which I'll be eternally in his debt.

Let's not forget Darren of course, who is the forum magpie... with possibly the most eclectic taste of us all! More power to his elbow..

I think that you have that one right Jared. Your alternative version sounds interesting.

Have you tried contacting them to see if they can resolve the issue Jared?

You were the fertile ground upon which my dispersed seeds of temptation fell and flowered LOL!!

I have to admit that I was surprised when you took up that path so keenly Jared especially at that early stage. That is a compliment because those two areas require extra work and a certain ear I think.

I haven't Fergus... I'm going away for a few days early tomorrow morning, and will see if it rectifies itself in the mean time.
