No good looking women on these CD covers, but they do contain marvellous music.
Something of a Mahler Fest today:
The Kubelik/BRSO live recording from 1981:
Stunning, I can never suppress a grin at the start of the fifth movement, it is simply wonderful.

That was the first Mahler record I ever heard. I loved it from the beginning, but when I heard the start of the Scherzo I was totally hooked!Seán wrote:Something of a Mahler Fest today:

Had a bit of a Mahlerfest myself too yesterday.
Symphony No.2
Huge dynamics in the last 2 movements. For the first time I heard a tiny bit of speakercone breakup in the sound. The CAM350's were showing no mercy!
I havent listened to Solti's M7 in a very long time. Maybe sometime this week then.

You have it on vinyl, in case that's a consideration!DaveF wrote:I havent listened to Solti's M7 in a very long time. Maybe sometime this week then.
Re: What are you listening to?
All of it is really terrific but the opening to the Fifth is just incredible. I had to put it on again this morning before leaving for work and I had it up LOUD too. It put a spring in my step.Ciaran wrote:That was the first Mahler record I ever heard. What always fascinated me about that CD cover was how anyone in their right mind would allow their musical instrument anywhere remotely close to salt water spray!!!
