Just back from my travels Tony and I now have Jplay up and running headless in JRiver with Total Commander switched off and I am really struggling to pull myself away from music these few evenings. This is the biggest upgrade for me so far. Amazing sound.

Very good Pearse you will have to explain headless in Jriver with total commander switched off' as not aware of that. I think yourself and Ken will have to give a few lessons on dac software configuration.

I installed an Intel 520 SSD in the PC and at the same time loaded Windows 8 (Enterprise) . The combination of the SSD and W8 is extremely fast loading and with Jplay 4.3 the sound is a major leap forward in quality terms. Bass is deeper and clearer and overall the sound is more holographic. The SSD costs between 80 and 130 euro in Elara.ie , I bought a 120Gb version but 80Gb would have been more than enough. Window 8 goes live from Oct 26 and is upgradable via internet for W7 and Vista users for about 40$.

whatabout mere laptop users Ken? Is the difference using the ssd compared to normal disk that much of a leap? or is it mainly windows 8?

Hi Tony, the sound quality improvement is from Windows 8 I believe from all the Jplay users who have tried it. The upgrade to W8 is a big leap in quality and I'd suggest you can upgrade the laptop online from Oct 26 and hear an immediate improvement but the SSD in my case is really only for the operating system and Jplay and I don't use the PC for anything else. You can put an SSD in a laptop but you need a larger one if you're going to save lots of programs, data etc.

ok Ken upgraded to windows8 pro. Jplay only opening with wasapi I cant change to kernel streaming. It would seem the young driver is not recognised by Windows 8. Is this a common problem? What is the fix? ( Please)

Hi Tony, W8 works fine with JKDAC32 in KS. My JKDAC32 thinks it's a Vitus Audio but I guess the method is the same.

On W8 , from the start panel, go onto the little blue rectangle with a flower and that's your regular desktop. Move your mouse over to the top right and Control Panel will appear on the bottom right.

Go into Control panel / Device manager / Sound Video and Game Controllers. You'll see your dac with a yellow triangle , select it and update driver. Use the option to select from a list of drivers and select the driver from M2 Tech. The computer will give some warning but carry on to happiness.

Ken, I have been living [???] without the Internet for a few weeks and, thus, am out of touch. What is an SSD.......

Tom it is a solid state drive. No or less moving parts than the old spinners that we all use. Was talking to Ken and the prices are prohibitive at the moment. Sorted now with windows 8. Figured out just as Ken called me that I had to associate the jkdac32 with the m2tech driver again as windows 8 wouldnt recognise this driver for that device. Back listening to the bloody shelby lynne track to see if 8 has now brought the 57's upto avantegarde duo level.
