Just got this today - 24/96 download. Very lovely and bluesy. Heck of a band.

The Kenny Clarke and Francy Boland Big Band kicking up a storm at Ronnies, it was a fabulous orchestra and Boland's arrangements for the sax section are particularly fine indeed and what a sax section it was too:

and from 1971, now the Buddy Rich Orchestra may not have been on a par with the CBBB but the arrangements are marvellous and his Orchestra boasted some very fine soloists too:

This could be considered a homage to Ellington. Mingus recruited several ex-Ellington alumni for this recording and even had Charlie Mariano play like Johnny Hodges, the group does sound Ellingtonian, Mingus wrote all the music for this recording and from the start it's pure Mingus, lovely stuff.

Really taken with Marc Johnson since hearing the Swept Away album.
This is his second album with the Bass Desires supergroup including Bill Frisell, John Scofield and Pete Erskine.
