Two different interpretations Dave so I suppose that might depend somewhat on the mood you were in at any given time.DaveF wrote:I still cant make up my mind on which is my favorite Beethoven cycle: Gardiner or Hogwood.
I always love the raw electricity that is present in the Gardiner set.
I have not listened to the Hogwood for a while so I must give that set a listen sometime soon.

Re: What are you listening to?
perhaps there is a bit more subtlety in places in the Hogwood set and some nice textures that usually come with his work but as you said, the Gardiner set has that raw electricity in it. Stand out moments for me in that set are the entire 7th, the final movement of the 9th and the transition from the 3rd to the 4th movement in the 5th. If none of those sweep you off your feet I dunno what else will!fergus wrote:Two different interpretations Dave so I suppose that might depend somewhat on the mood you were in at any given time.DaveF wrote:I still cant make up my mind on which is my favorite Beethoven cycle: Gardiner or Hogwood.

....followed by Berlioz- Les Nuits d’été....
....lovely music beautifully sung by Anne Sofie von Otter.

Re: What are you listening to?
Interesting comments Dave....my favourite movements from Beethoven's symphonies are the final movement of the 5th, all of the 6th, all of the 7th and the slow movement of the 9th.DaveF wrote:perhaps there is a bit more subtlety in places in the Hogwood set and some nice textures that usually come with his work but as you said, the Gardiner set has that raw electricity in it.
