I really like the earlier James Taylor albums Derek (as you can see from recent posts!) but I do have some of his later ones too on CD including FLAG. I have of course also seen him when he has performed in Dublin. He was a guitar player that I very much admired when I was a young fella trying to aquire that particular style of flat picking.

Heard this on vinyl and on a fantastic set of quads and airtight. It might not be trendy but it is still a damn fantastic debut album.

Glad you like it John. I've only played bits and pieces of it on the vinyl version due to being a bit shellshocked with it's dud of the week status in the Culture mag (Irish Times). I couldn't believe it even though I hadn't heard it at the time. Gerrard, in particular, came in for a bit of criticism. Here's a snippet : "....Gerrard can ululate all she likes, but the textures and chord progressions are merely souk-it-and-see (referring to the track Agape). Risible." signed DC (sic). I was devasted to say the least and subsequently I found it difficult to enjoy the album. Anyway from the bits I've heard my favourite track is the last one, Amnesia, which is absolutely amazing. Brendan Perry at his very, very best.....

A little story: When I received the album almost a week late I was dismayed to find that they (Topspin) didn't pack it as requested. I asked them to take the Lps out of their respective sleeves so as to prevent the cover splitting. So, you've guessed it, the Lp arrived sealed and the covers split! Normally I wouldn't complain but this time I did (with the negative review really pi##ing me off!) and asked them to send me a new sleeve minus the Lps as they were fine. To make a long story short they refunded me the cost of the Lp in full as they had no copies left!!! And I got to keep my own copy too :) So it does pay to complain.....even though it wasn't what I was expecting!
