how many versions of 'Puer Natus est Nobis' by Thomas Tallis do you own? Thought not.

I own at least 4 to my knowledge and wouldn't be surprised if other, subsequent versions find their way into my collection at some stage in the future. Because I really like it.

would I be interested in investing in a 3rd set of Nielsen Symphs? No, two's plenty enough thank you... they really don't get very much airplay, although I plan to give them another dust down and play them along with the overtures and concertos in the forseeable future. They will then probably go back on the shelf for another 2 or 3 years... ;-)
My apologies Jared, I stand corrected.

^^ absolutely nothing to apologise for Sean.. it's me whose the 'difficult to please' old sod on the forum!

I think there is a balance to be found somewhere between being openminded and being prepared to broaden your horizons on the one hand and settling into the rhythm of playing stuff you really love on the other...

Nielsen for me fits into a category of (reasonably) modern composers who I enjoy hearing from time to time but would never form a major part of my staple listening diet... along with Walton, Britten, Rachmaninov and Janacek to name a few. As you would probably predict, I enjoy his earlier, Brahmsian symphonies the most, whilst like Fergus, I struggle with Nos 5 & 6. I happen also to think his Violin Concerto is rather fine..

you never know I may, in years to come grow to love his work as much as you... ;-)

Pepe recommended it to me a couple of years ago. I gave my brother a copy of it for Christmas and he really likes it.

Great stuff Seán. With Mingardo and Invernizzi singing and Alessandrini at the helm it kind of sells itself!! I am looking forward to hearing it.

Get a listen to some of it at one of your listening sessions with him. That will tell you quickly enough whether or not you want it in your collection Seán.

Yeah, we are due to have another one soon. I have taken a vow of poverty when it comes to purchasing CDs.
