Jadarin/John,

Have you ever heard of these? Just discovered them courtesy of Phil (Norman Records). I promptly ordered my vinyl copy :) I think they are wonderful. Apparently they have a shed full of CDs out there.....BTW the second clip is right up your street :)

Norman Records blurb:

Steady now. folks, here’s the first in a very limited vinyl reissue program of the Epic 45 releases which have so far only appeared on CD. There will be 200 of each made available, pressed on heavy vinyl and the first one for your delectation is Slides which was their 3rd album from 2004. It’s been ages since I’ve heard this but you can hear the formation of their pastoral beginnings here. It’s where it all started! It’s also the the first LP on Public House Recordings for over 2 years (the last being the wonderful Declining Winter LP). Exciting times!

It was around this period where they started to dabble in electronic music (cue the great Drakelow EP which was released earlier in 2006). It’s a mish mash of indie pop, post-rock, folk, electronics, shoegaze and electronics all smushed into lovable bite sized chunks which are easily digestible. You’d think given all the genres I’ve just mentioned it’d sound like a confused mess but the songs are lovingly crafted, carefully orchestrated with nothing but attention to detail. All the instruments have space to breathe and nothing sounds cluttered. ‘Between Woodland’ is an instant pop classic with its jaunty guitars, pounding (slightly skittery) beat and general upbeat feeling. ‘Looking Down A Hill’ is an equally brilliant tune with a small passing resemblance to Tunng and Hood.

The comparisons to Hood, when the Adams boys started to experiment into other genres and become legends, are inevitable but this has more of a post rock feel than Hood ever had. Fans of Piano Magic, Emery Reel, Hood, Cocteaus-esque guitars, etc., should check this out if you’ve not heard this before! This has been out of print for 6 years now and this is a one shot chance at getting this sucker before it disappears again!

An Englishman from Clare or is it Limerick :) Seriously though, I'm glad you agree with me; They actually, for some strange reason, remind me of Boards of Canada!!!!!
