I agree, the Resurrection is a marvellous work deserving of a great performance every time.

So apparently I had a recording of Don Quixote all along in this box:

I haven't listened to either properly, but early impressions favour the Zinman.

I also have that one with du Pré Simon. I am not sure if your liner notes tell you the story but they reckon that the recording was made with the recording light off and they reckon that it was not actually meant to be recorded although it was a complete run through. It was later patched with a few very small takes from a slightly earlier recording with Klemperer conducting. It was apparently recorded on a two track recorder and marked "experimental recording" so it is not a polished, full commercial recording.

That's very interesting Fergus, my liner notes are very short on such details. Honestly, I bought that box on a whim and have never really explored it. As has been the recurring theme, I got distracted from Strauss once again this evening, so I still haven't listened to it through.

Book yourself some "me time" in the man cave, get yourself up to Ivor and come home with a full bodied red (wine!) and sit down and listen to your two versions before the end of the month!!

This is a good plan, although I may need a second bottle: I'll have a 3rd version next weel.
