Nice one John :) I've never ever come across that famous sandpaper sleeve on the vinyl edition...What's the sound like on the cd? Is it remastered? The alternative cover is one of my all time favourite sleeves....Also I love the weird rhythm sound Hannett gets on the second track :)

From Baltimore....

Just had a look at the wikipedia entry for this while I was grabbing the img above. There must be 25 session musicians listed!! I know becker & fagen went pretty nuts in the studio looking for prfection..... but thats fairly crazy!
Do or do not, there is no try

Not the remastered cd,alright sound nothing special.I wouldn't mind owning the sandpaper vinyl edition, selling for up to $400 on discogs.I spotted one on ebay for €120 so a nice collectorcybot wrote:jadarin wrote:

item,i remember reading somewhere years ago that the album cover wrecked every album that
came near it because it was that rough and the cover cost more than the album was selling for in the shops. Also there was a rumour that Ian Curtis helped assemble the covers in factory headquarters for extra money.
Martin Hannett was a great producer,a pity he got caught up in that lifestyle, but he paid for
it in the end and died at only .
42.Sad that....His production credits throw up a few surprises

It's ok John but not earth shattering. The flat murky production lets it down. There's a kind of Fairport vibe to it with a Richard Thompson sound alike doing the vocal chores. You can also hear bits of Paul Rodgers too. At least the guitars sound distorted which is a good thing :)
The Highwayman - yes that one!
Song of the Nile
