The rediscovery of Christoph Graupner (at least in recorded music) has been one of the most valuable and important gifts of record companies to us in the past 5 years.
The modest Canadian group Les Idées Heureuses may not reach the high standards of Cantus Cölln and other similar European groups, but they are never less than accomplished. What is really important is that the performance is good enough to reveal us yet another Graupner masterpiece.
With every new recording Graupner´s stature only increases.

I enjoyed this String Quintet, particularly the slow movement which was quite poignant in places.

This is a truly wonderful, dramatic and colourful performance of The Rite, it's a pleasure from start to finish and comes highly recommended.

I have that disc also; it might be the finest Stravinsky ballet recording in my collection :-)

I know that you like your Graupner Pepe; when did you first come across him?

Some 12 years ago Fergus, with this excellent recording:



I immediately noticed a distinctive and interesting composer that sounded neither like Bach or Telemann. And with each successive recording my admiration has only increased.
Beautiful music.
