Some after seeing them here on this forum. The Rorem I just think I will like as I already have one cd which I really like.

Claus, my good fellow, to state that you have bought copies of the above without listing conductors and orchestras sets you out a tease. I would dearly love to know the performers involved particularly on the Smetana and Ravel recordings.

The Ravel and Smetana is something I would never get (or discover) so it is purely on seeing others joy over listening to them. I have the Ravel on here with the kids and I like it!

They all look amazing purchases Claus. If people here influenced your choices then you may be happy to know that you are influencing me with Rorem. Here is a composer that I do not know but will try to discover shortly. Many thanks for that.

I bought it years ago on a whim in Tower I think. I really like the music and the sound is excellent as well. These symphonies are not too atonal (or chromatic) and has some great use of dynamics and percussion. There is an American feel to it that I can't explain but that I might recognise from jazz and rock....

I see myself as a musical archeologist. I am constantly trying to discover music new and old. I used to buy Gramophone and Wire magazines to help with this. Now I tend to use this forum, youtube, amazon etc.

Huge thanks again for posting your music here and elsewhere. It can get expensive though ;)

Thanks for that one Claus. I am always looking for ways to increase my appreciation of "contemporary" music and I might just get that one as I think that when one is investigating new composers I find it easier to start with their symphonies if they have any.

Claus: Really pleased to see your list of purchases, and hope you enjoy them all... please dip back in from time to time and tell us what you think of each... if there's something there which you really fall in love with, there is a small band of merry men in here, who would just love to advise you on what to try next... LOL

for my money, the Smetana & Mozart Symphs are top notch... many people have said the Karajan Mozart Requiem is 'good' but to be fair, not in a style to my taste.. you'll still get a great deal out of it, though...

You can use Amazon to purchase high quality disks at bargain prices if you know where to look... ;-)

agreed... its strange that the greater the number of instruments the easier it is generally to get into a piece of music... when you come to understand a composer's soundworld, then you gravitate through chamber an into instrumental. I think that's what a good many of us have done in TN, and its exactly what I'm doing at present, with Martinu.
