Listening Project Idea

I hope Fergus isnt like some of my old teachers.Doling out lines etc.Corporal punishment isnt still applicable to our age group,the law was changed wasnt it?

I would just like to get people to start thinking about who wants to volunteer next for the March listening project and what work they would like to discuss. It is early days I know but there is a little bit of work involved and in the interest of continuity I would like to keep if moving along seemlessly.

I spent about an hour yesterday afternoon reading through all your comments, and they really were extremely good my friend, you've frankly been hiding your light under a bushel. I will return to them again before the month is out and hopefully add something more meaningful, but you have commanded the forum with such authority, you'll be a hard act to follow.

As far as March is concerned, I don't mind, as long as it's not one of Simon's 'organ specials'... ;-)

Gosh Jared, I sincerely hope that is not the case. I never intended to elicit a reaction like that!! The Four Seasons is a piece of music that I have been listening to and reading about since forever and I picked the piece simply to illustrate what is possible with some music.

Now I am a bit concerned that people will be expected to follow with something in similiar vein. That is not the expectation at all. What I would like is for people to run through a personal favourite piece of music and explain as best they can why they like it and thereby possibly open that piece up to others that may not be aware of certain aspects of it. I may not fully understand a particular work but something that you may say might just provide a key to unlocking it for me, for example.

OK Fergus: For personal reasons, may I volunteer do take the April date? I have my Student Cross friends in for 5 days at the beginning of the month, which will afford me a bit of time to concentrate on this, whereas March could be more problematic. Is everyone OK with this?

That said, we are still very much in February (not half way through!) and there is still lots more Vivaldi talk to be had. I have a bit of free time tomorrow afternoon, when I will take a closer look at another aspect of this work for you (hopefully!)

I believe that would be 6 CDs. Yes, SIX glorious CDs of modern French organ music. What's not to love?
