That is true. Thanks for your comment Sean. By the way, anyone here is knowledgeable in Jazz so that I could have an idea where to start to?

Matt.
Hi Matt,
I have been listening to Jazz ever since I was a teenager, I have hundreds of Jazz LPs and CDs, I only migrated to Classical in 2007. You can start a new thread on the adjacent 'Everything Else' series of threads or send me a PM if you like, I will be glad to discuss any item with you.

That is a great idea Sean. I shall start the thread in a few days. Just to name a few familiar names (not music) among the 200 cds: Billie Holiday, Oscar Petersson, Duke Ellington, Charlie Barker (the saxophonist if I remember correctly). They all sound very interesting but I don't know where to start. Will tell more when I start a thread.

Regards,

Matt.
Duke Ellington is my Hero!, and is a very good place to start too. I would be very interested to learn what Ellington recordings you have. Holiday, Peterson and Parker are very intersting too. Have a look out for Miles Davis and Count Basie albums, Miles, in particular, left a stunning legacy of recordings, you may not like all of his output but you are bound to enjoy some of it, for example, I mentioned the Porgy and Bess album earlier in this thread. Anyway, talk to you later over on the other side.

I have the complete cycle and I like it, quite a lot actually, I do enjoy the Amadeus Quartet's music-making. Darren, I'd be interested to know what you make of them in due course.

I'm glad to hear they are well thought of. I am trying to tie up some loose ends before my austerity measures begin in earnest ;-) I have needed some more Haydn SQ recordings to contrast with my Angeles SQ box set.

The Angeles cycle is an excellent complete set of Haydn Quartets, I have the box set and I really like it.

Realistically it will be March; as I indicated, I have a few things I want to get before that. I am meeting with the bank next week to develop a plan of action, but I assure I will still be making the odd purchase Jared ;-)
