the sort of person who buys a new car every year, but who makes sure it's REALLY efficient or, even better, a hybrid.

That really REALLY bugs me. Fair enough my planet raping 12 year old 2.8 V6 petrol (but still efficient) yoke might not exactly be green but it's a lot greener than a 12 D hybrid!

My little hybrid is the best little car I've ever driven... It has a touch screen, a hard disk full of mp3s, and an automatic gearbox.

It has an eco-friendly electric engine combined with an eco-friendly 3.5 V6 producing 341 eco-friendly horsies. I even get 22mpg!

Being green is a lifestyle choice, I'm going for green!

You might get the buggy in all-right, anything else is touch and go though!

It's got plenty of power but even on the sport setting the suspension is far from sporty. It's a nice cruiser but the 18" wheels feck up the ride on anything but the best roads.

That said it is a nice little sleeper.

I get by with my 1.6 Seat Altea...... with sport tires..... Shame indeed ;)

At least I can be sure that I would have a slightly less slim chance of convincing my wife that I need 50k system than a 50k car.... And with the roads and traffic conditions available in this country, I know what I would prefer. :)

But I have to admit (as a dane) that I find the Irish "car culture" very....... fascinating. I think I will just have to leave it there. ;)

Right on! At the end of the day how we power our consumer electronics doesn't make a unicorns fart of difference to the environment.

As for the motoring culture.... I work in the motor trade and the stories I could tell you, oh the stories...

The Lexus would have been €100,000 in 2006 specified as it is. Roll on 2012 and €8,000 is what it was worth, it would have been rude not to pick it up!

And yet people want to pay €15,000 for a 2009 Corolla diesel....

I heard a very interesting program on Danish Radio about this whole switch-off-save-energy-thing vs. the developing countries green responsibilities:
Two statements stood out:

"Even if all of Europe decided to do all the things we are supposed to do in order to save energy, it will have such small effect on the world CO2 emissions, that it will barely be registrable".

"If Brazil, India, China etc. are to obtain the same general standard of living that we have in the western world, we would need three planets to sustain us, instead of one".
