Spade to Banana Adaptors

Post by tony »

Does anybody have this type of adaptor or used it at any stage? Wanted to try a set of speaker cables but unfortunately they are terminated with spades. Checked online and I found a type audioquest I think but they seem to be in the states.

Are you sure your amp can't take spades? Most can.....
Do or do not, there is no try

I have, in the past, stuck one leg of a spade straight into a banana. It fit surprisingly well...

I was just going to say that. The red and black covers probably loosen a bit. If it unscrews to the left, slide the spade under and tighten. Bob's yer uncle.

To be fair, I've had a few amps that wouldn't accept spades, so it's not unheard of.

oh oh . its a no brainer - don't mess with your cables , especially if you expect to sell on or trade in . here is the obvious solution if you are serious about using spades and your speaker terminals are non adjustable. http://www.thecablepro.com/spade-to-ban ... quest.html .

Thanks lads. It is a cyrus 8xp amp which has more connections tighlty packed togehter on the back than an aircraft cockpit console. The speaker connections are BFA type. Hollow bananna's are the only type that work other than bfa's. Cyrus amps are small and not like a lot of the valve amps that have minimal connections on the back (i.e. plenty of room to mess around and possibly get a spade to jam in) Patricks link is the only one I found with a product that should work. Was hoping somebody had something like that lying around as I was hoping to try out a set of cables kindly offered by Gerry.

The standard issue, terminate and tighten yourself, banana plugs will take some spades in the back, and will allow some spades to be tightened where you'd normally screw in the banana. I mean bananas like these:

They're available all over the place and might do?

Thanks Simon I think I may have something like that lying around maybe not exactly the same type. The problem I believe(havent seen the cables but have online) is that they are expensive and large and seem to have nice chunky spades. I dont think that option will work due to the size and space available. The audioquest ones seem to be the exact type that would do the job right. I didnt want to order a pair from the states to just try out something but maybe thats what I might have to do.

Yeah, it's one of those things that seems so simple that it's unbelievable you have to order from the US. I thought I could help, but I have connectors that go the other way.
