Hi,
Here's the beginner's guide http://jplay.eu/computer-audio/jplay-beginners-guide/ which covers iTunes etc. I've never used iTunes myself but I have tried Jriver. I presume you've downloaded the 64bit version!
My suggestion is to use JPLAYmini at first to get the hang of everything and ramp up the settings.
I'm using Beach, FullScale Hibernate, DirectLink.
By the way what Dac are you using? most dacs are compatible with Hibernate and you can find the list on the Jplay forum http://jplay.eu/forum/jplay/list-of-dac ... nate-mode/
You need to set your Dac/interface as the default sound device in Windows.

I use EAC but here's the link to dbpoweramp http://www.dbpoweramp.com/cd-ripper.htm

Perservere , even an IT man doesn't give up this easily !!

Like Ken, I've never used itunes, but I would second his advice to use jplaymini to get your settings sorted. Once thats done, its much easier to move to using itunes etc afterwards.

For testing the hibernate mode, if you put any memory stick in a USB slot and then select "viaUSB" as the hibernate mode, you can pull the laptop back out of hibernate by pulling out the USB drive. Saves having to do a restart when in the testing stage.....

UPDATE
I had a brief flirtation with Jriver/Jplay and when I played one track with Hibernate on no problem but when I played several tracks it only played the first one and then stopped. Without Hibernate it played as normal. I was able to get it working by selecting the tracks in Windows Explorer , pasting to the play area in Jriver, making sure all tracks were selected and then pressing play. The key point is to make all tracks are selected/coloured in Jriver and the time to load will be long enough to load the complete album ie Jplay preloads all the tracks not just the first one.
All this rigmarole made the use of Jriver a waste of time compared to JPLAYmini which is the best sound anyway.

Hi Fran , not using it currently, I used it before. I know the Fidelizer author and the JPlay guys cooperate. Are you using it with Jplay?

Yes, and surprisingly it makes a difference - even in hibernate!

Oh, I went the whole hog - extreme or whatever its called..... but I've used jplaymini only. It turns off ethernet/wifi, also firewall, so you'd want to be ok with all that (playing local files/off a usb HDD).

Fran, I'm now Fidelized in Extremis and the sound is improved. Clearer and more revealing. I previously used an old version which didn't appear to do much but this one is very effective if a bit scary when it starts switching things off. My set-up rarely uses t'net so I'm quite happy to leave it as it is now.

Yes, when screens start flickering and menu bars going funny, its always a bit scary!! The only pain is that it takes a restart to reverse it. My laptop restarts in about a minute so its not too bad.

The biggest disadvantage with fidelizer is that this means you have no network, so you can't use it with a NAS/other PC. Just something to bear in mind I suppose.
