DaveF wrote:what's the pacing like here Fergus? My most recent version of the Alpine Symphony is by Solti but it lacks the right touch and subtlety in certain passages not to mention the brightness of the recording. Ahhhh! Brightness!, it really p*sses me off in recordings.
The pacing is fine here Dave because, most importantly, it "feels" right....nothing is rushed or dragged out. I do stress again that this is an mono recording so it sounds a bit boxy but it is a very good performance....and bright it is not!

I haven't posted in here for awhile.

Anyway, for Good Friday I listened to:
Allegri
Miserere

The Sixteen/Harry Christophers

Image

and then some mighty, meaty music:
Haydn
Symphony No. 93

Chamber Orchestra of Europe
Claudio Abbado conducting

Image

Every time I listen to music from this set I always think what a pity it is that Abbado and the COE did not record all of the London Symphonies, the music on this set is truly magnificent.

And then
Haydn
Symphony No. 93

Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
Nikolaus Harnoncoutt conducting

Image

This is another gorgeous rendition of one of my favourite Haydn's symphonies.
