That is a lovely cycle, I prefer it to Ormandy's set.

That is a lovely set. Dave, have you got the earlier Cluytens/BPO cycle? Fergus brought it to my attenton and it's fabulous, you will pick it up for a vey good price too, it's as good as the HvK set.

I dont have the Cluytens set Sean. To be honest I dont think I'll be getting it either. I'm happy with the sets that I already own which are a good mix of modern and HIP's. I dont really experience a sense of exploration etc anymore when I listen to a Beethoven symphony unlike say any new Mahler purchase. Dont get me wrong, I do like Beethoven's symphonies a lot but having multiple sets doesnt really appeal to me as much as other composers.

Johannes Brahms
String Quintet in F major, op 88
String Quintet in G major, op 111

Norbert Brainin violin I - Siegmund Nissel violin II
Peter Schidlof viola - Martin Lovett - cello
& Cecil Aronowitz viola

Listening to this cd is a thoroughly wonderful way to spend fifty minutes of one's time, the music is delivered with great panache by the Amadeus Quartet and Aronowitz, they make a gorgeous sound. I have listened to this cd several times over the past couple of days and it is really heart warming, life-affirming music, I love it.
